The Stellar Committee

The Stellar Committee is an international group of Scientists and Educators who record and administer a list of Names Stars. Star naming sites and recording services can use the Stellar Committee databases. The committee does not name stars. The committee records the names that others have assigned to the stars.

Can you really Name a Star?

Astronomical names are determined by the International Astronomical Union. StellarCommitte.org and all other star naming services cannot officially name a star. All we can do is collect the assigned names and record them. You can read an article about this in Wired Magazine.

The Stellar Committe does not record star names directly.
